I have been told about a brush its called the furminator and it gets all the matted under coat and helps with the shedding problem. I used to have a long haired cat I had him shaved once too it was funny because when I got him home he just sat and glared at me as if to say how dare you make me look like this, he had a lion cut. I do admit he made me chuckle, but it made his life easier too he could find his behind again. heh heh
