That was our neighbor who heard that, not me. He lives the equivalent of at least a city block away. There have been cougars in my yard though. Fortunately, because they prey on the deer and we have plenty of deer, they are not very hungry cougars but they would eat little kittycats which is why my boys have their enclosure (cougars and coyotes). I moved to Washington from Alaska where bears were more of a problem and moose would stomp you so I´m not very frightened of wild animals. I leave them alone and mostly they leave me alone. I like the deer and don´t mind if they eat what´s in my yard but better them than me or my kitties when it comes to being cougar food. (of course, I don´t know if I could watch one be killed or not. I hope I´d have sense enough not to get between a big cat and a prey I don´t know. If a cougar got a little cat, it would be gone way too fast for me to do anything except avenge myself on it, which is stupid and not fair but I wouldn´t like it at all).
