Your photographs are really beautiful! I love the 2 ballon pics - they are unusually striking portraits.
Both of your cats are very photogenic, but I think that has a lot to do with your photographic skills, as well as the fact that they are gorgeous cats!

It´s indeed a hobby of mine and I try to develop it by trying different things, but I haven´t followed a course or anything (yet).
I´ve just viewed your website and that is very impressing! What kind of camera do you use? And those beautiful backgrounds, do you use fabric or something?

Hi Sannie,

I have a Canon 30D and the usual portrait kit - two flashes, light stands, separate continual light source, umbrellas, etc. However, to have a huge impact on your photos right away, the separate flash gun is the most important bit you can get. What kind of camera do you have? I might be able to make a suggestion or two.

Also, yes, the backdrops are fabric. I have some proper backdrops, but I also am always on the lookout for interesting bed sheets! I also haunt ebay for fabric by the foot or metre. You just have to make sure they are wide and long, 6 foot by 6 foot (3 metres by 3 metres) minimum. Then just drape it over the couch and maek sure that it doesn´t get too wrinkled. A kitchen table is a good work surface, but you will need something to drape the fabric over. I have a backdrop stand, but if you pull a table in front of a door and use a couple of clamps, it should work well enough. A curtain rod works very well and you can just clamp it over the curtains already in place.

Then you just have to get the cat to be interested in posing! I use treats and toys on strings usually. When I first started, I tried catnip, but that backfired as the cats would get too wasted to pose nicely.

When you shoot, try to make sure you get the whole kitty - many a beautiful photo has been spoiled by an ear or tail being chopped off. You can always crop in tighter afterwards if there is too much space around the cat.
