Cat of the Week (23.June 2008 - 29.June 2008)

Introduction
I was living on the streets of Richmond, West London for at least 6 months. In June 2008 a kind lady who had been feeding me became concerned for my health and took me to the local cat vet. Unfortunately no-one knew where I came from so I am currently living out the back of the vet. I have everything I need but I´d really love to be reunited with my family. If you recognize me please let them know, or if you know someone who lives in Richmond or once lived there please forward my picture or video.

How will you celebrate becoming cat of the week?
It’s all a bit overwhelming so I haven’t made any plans yet, but I’ll probably celebrate by having a scratch on the door mat, walk around and maul some catnip mice while the servants clean out my cage, sleep a bit more and then maybe have a bite to eat. So erm … a normal day I guess.

What are your favourite toys?
Well the vets where I’m staying have an unlimited supply of cat toys so I’m really spoilt. My favourite is the Zebedee Catnip Mouse. I don’t know what she puts in them but they send me into a frenzy.

What’s it like living at the vets?
If it was a normal vet with loud dogs I wouldn’t like it but this is a cat only vet, so everything is set up just for cats. It’s quite nice actually - like one of those all inclusive resort holidays. They feed me a special diet to helps my skin get better (after living on the streets for 6 months I’d let myself go a bit) and keep my cage nice and clean. When there are no patients they also let me have the run of the place and try out the new toys that come in. Of course it doesn’t compare to having a home and a family that can play with me all the time but it is good for now and a million times better than living on the streets.

How are you getting on with your housemates?
Actually I don’t see them. Because we cats are territorial and get stressed when we come face to face with each other in cages the vet surgery is set up so patients never see each other. I know they’re in here because I pay attention and am very smart but most of the cats that come in think they’re the only ones here. Fools hahaha!!

What do you know about your past?
Very little. I know that I lived in Kew, Richmond in West London about 10 years ago, and then that I lived on the streets here for about 6 months this year. I have no idea what happened in between then or where my family is now. Maybe my family moved away from the area and let me out too soon so I got disorientated and found my way back here. Or maybe, they went away on holidays and I thought they had abandoned me so I moved to the streets. All I can remember is a kind lady who fed me occasionally brought me into the cat vets because my fur was falling out and she was worried about my health.

How can your UC friends help find your family?
They can forward my profile pictures and video to as many people as possible. The more people who see it, the better my chances are of being reunited with my family.

How much does it suck living in a cage when you’ve been used to roaming the streets?
I do like to get out occasionally when there are no patients in but I’m quite old and my cage is large so I don’t mind sleeping in here a lot of the time. I have a shelf to sit on and the cage smells like home now so actually I am quite comfortable. Whenever someone opens a door to the outside I freak out and run straight back to my cage. I guess I am scared most of being kicked out on the street again.
